This course is designed to introduce participants to project management fundamentals, tools and techniques as a means to begin building a “toolbox” of best practices that will lead to more successful project efforts. It is not a theoretical course, but rather focuses on the practical aspects of project management in successfully completing project work. 

In this course, participants will:

  • Learn how project management can help get project activities and tasks done more effectively and efficiently
  • Gain a basic understanding of fundamental project management terms and concepts
  • Explore the importance of assessing and managing risk in the project environment
  • Learn about the need to embracing change and remain flexible and agile when managing projects
  • Discuss the importance of planning in successful projects and its iterative nature
  • Identify factors that increase probability of project success
  • Discuss project-specific tools, techniques and best practices
  • Begin building a ”project management toolbox” for future use in projects
  • Participate in experiential learning, including group discussions and team activities to analyze and apply ideas, tools and techniques
