Substance Use Disorder and the Opioid Crisis

The goal of the conference will be to increase knowledge, skills, and ability of academia, health professionals and community members to address health disparities regarding substance use disorder and the current opioid crisis nationwide. This includes issues regarding public health responses and policies around opioid users, recognizing signs and symptoms of substance use disorder, identifying current illicit drugs, and advocacy and support for substance use and abuse health professionals and patients.

Objectives 

At the end of this workshop, the participants should be able to:

  • Define “Substance and Drug Use Disorders”
  • Examine current policies regarding substance use disorder
  • Analyze the current trends of drug and substance use disorders and the misuse of prescription drugs
  • Discuss strategies for developing, implementing, and evaluating policies regarding substance and drug use disorders with opioid addiction.
  • Identify local organizations working in substance use disorder prevention and policy making
