William M. Clark, MD, Visiting Professorship

William M. Clark, MD, had a long, productive association with Creighton University and Saint Joseph Hospital and exemplified the spirit of family practice medicine. He obtained his bachelor’s degree at Creighton in 1944, followed by a medical degree in 1946. He completed an internship at Saint Joseph Hospital that same year. After a tour of duty with the United States Army, he established his medical practice in Omaha, Neb., in association with Harry J. Jenkins Sr., MD. Dr. Clark was appointed to the Saint Joseph’s medical staff in 1950, and played an active role in medical policy issues for the next 41 years. He was a member of the Medical Policy Board from 1976 until 1991 and was selected by his peers to serve on the executive committee of the board from 1981 until his death in 1991. He also served as secretary/treasurer of the medical staff from 1987 until 1990.

In 1978, Dr. Clark was named associate chief of the Family Medicine Section at Creighton University Medical Center, a post he held until 1991. Devoted to his patients and students, Dr. Clark was an enthusiastic learner, always willing to share his knowledge of new procedures with his colleagues and medical residents. Dr. William Clark’s love of medicine and concern for others set the standard for family practice at Creighton University and Saint Joseph Hospital, a legacy that will long be practiced and remembered.
