Neurology has witnessed major advances in the management of neurological disorders in the last decade. With this plethora of new information, it is vital to be informed and use the most recent guidelines to provide our patients with the most optimal care. This conference will provide primary care professionals with practical patient management approaches to common neurological disorders. The emphasis will be in aligning physician and other healthcare professionals’ behavior with current guidelines and evidence based medicine.

Purpose

The conference will provide practitioners with the most recent advances and information that will enhance knowledge, skills and performance in the evaluation and treatment of neurological disorders.

Objectives

  • Describe pathophysiologic mechanisms of acute stroke and discuss new interventional treatments
  • Discuss the guidelines for the prevention of stroke and provide comprehensive and evidence based recommendations in stroke prevention
  • Analyze emerging research on progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) pathology and the technical advances in imaging
  • Recognize the various ways both patients and clinicians experience suffering in medical practice
  • Examine the new classification of seizures and how separating seizures into different types helps guide further testing, treatment and prognosis of epilepsy
  • Define the diagnostic criteria for migraine headaches and current recommendations for management and treatment options
  • Discuss the latest information regarding the pharmacologic treatment of Parkinson’s disease
  • Describe the clinical manifestations and diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders and how neurological rehabilitation can improve function and well-being of patients with disorders of the nervous system
  • Describe the latest modalities and trends in neuromuscular medicine diagnosis, treatment and management
  • Discuss the latest information regarding the pharmacologic treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome
  • Identify the latest neuroscientific breakthroughs and advances in understanding the human mind and brain

Each professional is responsible for their own certification.

Speech Pathology
The Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology does not pre-approve continuing education programs but will accept as continuing education for renewal, continuing education programs specified in 172 NAC 23-004.01C. It is the licensee’s responsibility to attend or participate in continuing education activities which meet the guidelines pursuant to 172 NAC 23-004.01C.
